Latest Administrative Decision

 The Rhode Island Division of Taxation has posted its latest Administrative Decision.

  • Decision No. 2020-09 focuses on whether the taxpayers' refund claim for 2015 should have been denied by the Division.

Information for employers about withholding

The Division of Taxation has posted the new booklet of income tax withholding tables (used by employers and others to calculate how much to withhold from an employee’s pay in 2021 for Rhode Island personal income tax purposes). Click here to view. (See screenshot below.)

The Division has also posted the new version of Form RI W-4, “Employee’s Withholding Allowance Certificate” (which an employee may use to adjust the amount of Rhode Island personal income tax withheld from the employee's paycheck). Click here to view.

Governor extends Executive Orders

Rhode Island Governor Gina M. Raimondo recently extended a number of Executive Orders until December 31, 2020, including the following:

  • Executive Order 20-02, declaring a state of emergency due to the dangers to health and life posed by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and
  • Executive Order 20-19, involving unemployment insurance matters (including relief for employers related to unemployment insurance tax charges).

These Executive Orders will remain in full force and effect until December 31, 2020, unless renewed, modified, or terminated by subsequent Executive Orders. For more information, click here.

Latest Administrative Decision

The Rhode Island Division of Taxation has posted its latest Administrative Decision.

  • Decision No. 2020-08 focuses on whether the taxpayer, a limited liability company (LLC), owes the annual charge (equivalent to the annual corporate minimum tax).

"Seminar for Tax Preparers" - slides now available

The Rhode Island Division of Taxation held its “Seminar for Tax Preparers” online on Wednesday, December 9, 2020. The seminar provided an update for tax preparers on what’s new for the coming tax-filing season, which begins next month.

Grant application deadlines are near

The Rhode Island Division of Taxation today issued a reminder about two State grant programs that provide relief for certain businesses that are suffering losses due to coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic restrictions.

“Affected businesses that have not already applied should take time this weekend to review each program’s requirements and other details, because the application deadline for both programs is right around the corner,” said Rhode Island Tax Administrator Neena Savage.

Grant program extended

The “RI on Pause” grant program has been extended through the third week of the Pause. 

In addition, the application deadline has been extended to 11:59 p.m. on Monday, December 14, 2020.
